How Soon To Get Started In A Cab
You can start as soon as you apply and receive a county taxi cab permit. It takes about a 1/2 day to get done with the application process and then 7-10 business days for them to issue the permit. You can not start until you receive the permit. But when you get it, you start making cash right a way. ( See Licensing Below )
Driving a taxi cab description
Driving a taxi cab is an adventure. Not a job. The typical cabdriver works early in the morning for rides to the airport, afternoons at a hotel stand, and nights taking people to and from bars and restaurants. A good cab driver works when its busy and does something else when its slow. You will also find many people unexpectedly without transportation, older adults who need assistance, and a menagerie of other people. It is most interesting. It is slower during the midday and busier at night, especially weekends.
We provide cab business through a simple GPS computer dispatch system. You can also find rides at hotel stands, in front of bars, and "troll" or "flag" for customers at area attractions - like shopping centers, beaches, bus stops, and other places.
Ideally, the good cab driver builds up his own business through business cards and a cell phone, converting regulars to his own. Good drivers have a good mix of calls from the computer 50%, 25% personal repeat business, and 25% from walk ups or "flags".
There is cab training provided, but you are independent, being able to work when you want and being able to take the taxi home for your own convenience. The only real requirement is that you pay a lease fee for the taxi. The amount you earn, is the amount over what you pay for lease and gas.
Income:
Full time is considered 50-60 hrs a week and gross income after lease and gas is typically $400-700 a week. These figures depend on the individual's performance.
Part Time is 30-40 hrs a week and must include thurs, frid, sat or fri, sat, sun. Gross income after lease and gas is typically $200-$500 a week. Again, this depends on the individual.
You earn money from fares daily and lease the cab on a daily or weekly basis. The first two days cost $10 a day which graduates to $60 day, then $80 a day. There is no guarantee as to how much you can make. Come see us for more details and specials...
Income Potential:
Familiarity with the County, the better people skills you have, and your work ethic will determine how much you can earn. 30% of new applicants decide this is not the type of work they want after 2 weeks. However, long term drivers have reported to us income in the range of $1000-$1200 a week take home, on average. These cab drivers pick up things quickly, establish good passenger relationships, put in plenty of hours, and are very determined.
